Damned Damned Damned

Description

Released in February 1977, this debut album by the Damned was the first English punk album to be released. Recorded by Nick Lowe in a live studio atmosphere, it has now become a classic of the genre, thanks to anthems like New Rose, which gave its name to a legendary label (and record store) in Paris, and the single "Neat, Neat, Neat," which opens the album. The tracks are short, with no guitar solos from Brian James, but a true gothic atmosphere with the sepulchral voice of former undertaker Dave Vanian. Stab Your Back, written by drummer Rat Scabies, lasts just over a minute, while Feel The Pain explores a sadomasochistic theme. I Feel Alright, a cover of the Stooges, concludes this youthful album, whose cover shows the four musicians after one of those "food fights" that the English enjoy. Highlights: Fan Cub, New Rose, Feel The Pain.
