THE BEST OF

Description

With a new album "Darkadelic" well received in stores, the Damned continue to build on their legendary status. Upon its release earlier this year, the vinyl version of "The Best Of The Damned" even charted in the top 20 of the independent albums chart. This album was originally released by Ace in 1981 and brought together the classic singles the group had cut for the label such as "Love Song", "Smash It Up" (Parts 1 and 2), "I Just Can't Be Happy Today", "History Of The World", "Hit Or Miss", their Christmas single "There Ain't No Sanity Clause" and "Wait For The Blackout". Not only are they now considered benchmark Damned tracks, but they also trace a musical development at Ace where they moved from their punk roots to creating melodic pop songs that also propelled them into the charts. Even better, upon its first release in 1981, the album also included the punk classics "New Rose" and "Neat Neat Neat". There is even Captain Sensible and the Softies version of Jet Boy, Jet Girl which appeared on the flip side of "Wait For The Blackout" in 1982. You don't mess with a classic, which is why we have reissued the original album as it was on this new CD version. The only extra fairy dust is provided by the new liner notes from Ian Shirley detailing the Damned's journey from "New Rose" to "The Best Of The Damned".
