The first album on Sub Pop from the wonderful Welsh trio The Bug Club, filled with catchy, energetic, and witty punk. They have released ten singles, two albums, two EPs, three projects that no one can describe, and one album under a different band name, all since 2021. Initially composed of Sam Willmett (vocals/guitar) and Tilly Harris (vocals/bass) along with Dan Matthew (drums), The Bug Club started playing in 2016. They were signed by the British label Bingo Records in the fall of 2020. Their third album On The Intricate Inner Workings Of The System - and first for Sub Pop - sees the band serving up a solid piece of their specialty, garage rock reminiscent of The Modern Lovers mixed with The Nuggets. It features the fun call-and-response of the B-52s blended with the power of AC/DC's chords. The band leans towards fast punk, and the double opening salvo of "War Movies" and "Quality Pints" sets the rules of the game: dual vocals, surreal reflections on everyday topics that become profound, and riffs galore.
