Let's Get Started

Description

Tetrack is a reggae group formed by Carlton Hines, Dave Harvey, and Paul Mangaroo in the 70s. It brings together three rather high-pitched voices influenced by American soul. Together, they started recording a few singles, such as "Only Jah Jah Know" in 1977. The following year, this track opened Tetrack's first album. Entitled "Let's Get Started," it was recorded at Harry J and Channel One studios under the guidance of sound engineers Sylvan Morris and Maxie. For the melodies, the group called upon talented musicians such as drummer Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace, bassist Robbie Shakespeare, saxophonist Headley Bennett, and the great Augustus Pablo on various instruments (melodica, xylophone, piano). The latter also co-produced and arranged the album. The musicians collectively produced powerful compositions with heavy skanks that launched the lyrics and vocal cords of the three companions into orbit. Each track immerses us in a calming and pleasant world that perfectly blends the quality of the instrumentation with the vocals, as exemplified by the exquisite "Look Within Yourself." This conscious track highlights the trio's complementarity on a penetrating roots sound tinged with brass. Augustus Pablo's melodica on the profound "Isn't It Time" is also noteworthy. While the lyrics are primarily written by Carlton Hines, each member takes turns as lead or backing vocalist, expressing their unique style. We savor Paul Mangaroo's falsetto on magnificent songs like "Let's Get Started" or "Couldn't Walk Away," and Carlton's sweet voice on the beautiful "It's Up To You" or "Simple Things." Dave Harvey brings his lightness to "We Don't Get Along" or "Judge & Jury." In total, the album comprises 10 well-structured and balanced tracks that truly deserve a careful listen! In the early 80s, the group released a second album titled "Trouble" before disbanding. Each member pursued their career with varying degrees of success. Carlton Hines lent his songwriting skills to artists like Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, and Mighty Diamonds, while the other two singers provided backing vocals on different projects. In 2008, Carlton Hines reformed the group with Norris Reid replacing Paul Mangaroo. The album "Unfinished Business" was released in 2012. Produced by AUGUSTUS PABLO.
