Teenage Fanclub announces today their new album Nothing Lasts Forever. The eleventh full studio album by Teenage Fanclub, it is beautifully rich and melodic - it's the sound of the end of a season, the last warm days of the year as the nights begin to fall and thoughts become reflective and a bit melancholic.
This reflection is pervasive on the record, whether it's in the autumn folk rock of Tired Of Being Alone which repositions Laurel Canyon somewhere in the heart of the Wye Valley, the William Blake quoting Self-Sedation or on the song that preceded Nothing Lasts Forever.
One of the recurring themes of Nothing Lasts Forever is light, both as a metaphor for hope and as the ultimate destination further down the road. Although the band's songwriters Norman Blake and Raymond McGinley found themselves addressing similar themes, it was pure coincidence. The band recorded Nothing Lasts Forever, with Francis Macdonald on drums, Dave McGowan on bass and Euros Childs on keyboards during an intense ten-day period in the bucolic Welsh countryside at Rockfield Studios, near Monmouth at the end of August. You can hear the effect of this environment on the record - it is full of gentle breeze, wide sky, beauty and space.
