DEW AT DAWN/SLIGHTY ALL THE TIME

Description

The legendary jazz-rock group Soft Machine presents this tribute to one of the greatest figures in British jazz - trumpeter Harry Beckett - with this limited edition EP “The Dew at Dawn” featuring a cover of a classic on the second side. It is the second EP in the BritJazz series from My Only Desire Records, which sees some contemporary jazz groups choosing to make new studio recordings of classic compositions from the golden age of British jazz in the 60s and 70s. Now led by guitar master John Etheridge, an original member of Soft Machine since the mid-1970s, and Canterbury scene veteran saxophonist Theo Travis, the group has seen some recent changes with bassist Fred Thelonious Baker (a former member of Harry Beckett’s group) joining for the album “Other Doors” in 2023. It is also the first recording with drummer Asaf Sirkis, who replaced British jazz legend John Marshall.
