The title track of Sébastien Delage's second album, set to be released on May 17, 2024, Baise Platine is an urgent, raw, tense, warm, sunny, and intimate song that speaks to gay desire; it is a direct continuation of Chanson de Baise (from his first EP Fou, 2022). If the intimate is political, Baise Platine is much more than a confession; it is a declaration of love, a cry, a rallying cry. At a time when the whole world seems to be collapsing, it naïvely proclaims itself as an openly queer and libertarian title, treated in the first person, with disarming sincerity and sensitivity. As on the album, everything here is played and recorded with microphones or DI. Largely recorded and produced in his small 15m2 apartment under the rooftops of Paris, it is entirely arranged for voice/guitar/bass/drums/omnichord (1984 electronic autoharp), giving this album a 90s Anglo-Saxon rock aesthetic - DIY - but with a persistent "chanson française" side. While the music and instrumental parts take up more space than on the first album, it is once again the lyrics that are at the heart of these 9 tracks, with touches of melancholy here and there. Incisive and raw, the lyrics paint, through Sébastien's perspective and reality, an intimate portrait of gay love in 2023, within its broader context of salvatory and powerful feelings.
