Papillon

Description

This album was inspired by the novel "Papillon" by Henri Charrière, which sold over 1 million copies: Sanseverino revisits the story of this prisoner accused in 1931 of a murder he claims he did not commit. The story also inspired Franklin Schaffner, who adapted it for the cinema, bringing together Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman on screen. This new recording thus retraces the story of a Montmartre thug unjustly accused of murder and sent to the penal colony. "Papillon" will be accompanied by the release of a comic book directly related to the story told in the album. "It's a literary karaoke," says the singer. The recipe is simple: one chapter, one song! Sanseverino begins his narrative in 1931, at the assize trial during which the accused Papillon is sent to the penal colony, and ends it in 1944 when he succeeds in his last escape. "I wrote the album in the order of the book, so it is listened to in the order of composition. At first, I only knew what sound I wanted to hear." As soon as he placed the novel in front of him and picked up his guitar, Sanseverino knew where he was going: "Papillon" would be a bluegrass album, resolutely acoustic and virtuosic, nourished by years of companionship with exceptional musicians - Christophe Cravero on viola, Christian Seguret on mandolin and violin, Jean-Marc Delon on banjo, Jidé Jouannic on double bass, reinforced by Lionel Suarez on accordion and Xa Mesa on percussion.
