The meeting between the creator of New Conception Of Jazz and the rhythm section of the Esbjörn Svensson Trio (E.S.T.) The two emblematic formations of 21st-century Scandinavian jazz E.S.T. and New Conception of Jazz come together in the trio Rymden. Bugge Wesseltoft thus reunites with Magnus Öström and Dan Berglund (partners of the late Esbjörn Svensson) for a first album Reflections And Odysseys. E.S.T. and New Conception Of Jazz have always been primarily groups of explorers, experimenters testing the limits of existing forms while trying to clear new musical territories. With the creation of Rymden ("space" in Swedish), it is a music resolutely rooted in Scandinavian culture that we see blossoming before us. But a Scandinavian jazz far from the clichés of the genre: it is a music driven by a rough dynamic, a complex yet attractive playing technique, an epic and cinematic sound filled with drama, tension, and release.
