All Wild Things Are Shy is the final studio album by beloved singer-songwriter Richard Laviolette, a powerful collection completed in the last months of his life. Like most of Richard's previous works (including 2 earlier albums from You've Changed Records: All Of Your Raw Materials (2010) and Taking The Long Way Home (2017)), the songs on All Wild Things Are Shy confront death and mortality courageously and directly, while overflowing with courage and glory, love, justice, honesty, and a beautiful, fundamental belief in the ability of music to bring people together. It presents an immediate, essentialist, and community-oriented vision of DIY folk rock, both specifically intimate and mortally epic. Bry Webb from Constantines and Steph Yates from Cots share lead vocals on the title track; Jessy Bell Smith (from Skydiggers), a long-time collaborator, can be heard with her powerful and sympathetic voice throughout the album. With the rapid progression of Huntington's disease symptoms exacerbated by complex long-term health issues, Richard chose to receive medical assistance in dying (MAID) on September 5, 2023. We miss him greatly.
