Originally released on Hut Records in June 2000, Alone With Everybody was highly anticipated, as it was Ashcroft's first recording since the disbandment of the group he founded and led, The Verve. This reissue replicates the original UK pressing from 2000 and is available on 180g audiophile double vinyl in a gatefold sleeve. Opening the album with its string-laden introduction, "Song For The Lovers" immediately signals Ashcroft's intent. Intensely melodic and anthemic, it picks up exactly where The Verve's multi-platinum Urban Hymns, released in 1997, left off. Released as a single, it reached number three in the UK and spent much of the summer in the charts. Recorded at Olympic Studios and Metropolis in London, Alone With Everybody, grand, bold, and often beautiful, climbed to the top of the charts in early July; it showcased all of Ashcroft's strengths, from memorable hooks and catchy choruses to subtly dance-influenced rhythms. The ballad "Slow Was My Heart," the upbeat "C'Mon People (We're Making It Now)," and the reflective "You On My Mind In My Sleep," wrapped in strings, are other highlights of the album.
