Monster is the ninth album by R.E.M., released in 1994 at the height of the band's success following the success of the albums 'Out of Time' (1991) and 'Automatic For The People' (1992). Coming after a long stage hiatus (the band had not toured with the two previous records), 'Monster' presents an intentional shift in R.E.M.'s sound, a 'return to rock' with prominent guitars and simple arrangements. The album contains the singles 'What's The Frequency, Kenneth?,' 'Crush with Eyeliner', 'Bang and Blame' and 'Strange Currencies.' The 25th anniversary reissues include the remastered original album, a new mix by Scott Litt, demos, and a concert in Chicago in 1995, inviting listeners to rediscover Monster in a completely new light.
