Fifteen years ago, Ralfe Band released two debut albums of fragile yet colourful beauty. 'Swords' (2005) and 'Attic Thieves' (2008) guided listeners through imaginary landscapes that owed as much to Appalachian folk as to Balkan music. We loved this freedom, this nonchalance, and this elegance. A delightful blend, sometimes burlesque, sometimes bucolic, but always dreamy and mischievous. 'Achilles Was A Hound Dog' shuffles the deck, much to our delight. Still deeply rooted in Oly Ralfe's unique world, these ten compositions open up new perspectives. Recorded in Oxford and London, 'Achilles Was a Hound Dog' brings together Ralfe Band's usual musicians: Garo Nahoulakian (guitar, bass), Nick Fowler (bass, guitar), and Mike Monaghan (drums). Other friends also lend a hand to the project: Seb Rochford (drums; Polar Bear, Damon Albarn), Ben Nicholls (double bass; Nadine Shah), Gabriella Swallow (cello; Richard Hawley), Harry Deacon (bass; Palace), and Rob Ellis (drums; PJ Harvey). Completing this divine cast is Emma Faulkner's vocals, which add an extra dimension to all the compositions. The work of an eternal troubadour, where baroque pop, dark indie, new-wave sounds, and whimsical jazz intertwine. All complemented by the astonishing cover art created by Oly Ralfe himself.
