Emilie Tiersen (aka QUINQUIS) unveils a high-flying, synthetic and atmospheric debut album
Mute's new signing, Breton artist Émilie Tiersen aka QUINQUIS, announces details of her debut album SEIM – a collaboration with producer Gareth Jones (Sunroof, Liars, Depeche Mode, Apparat) – set for release on May 20, 2022 via Mute/[PIAS]! The result is an album that merges electronic sounds, immersive atmospheres, and artful melodies carried by Émilie’s voice, which is both tender and soaring, and entirely sung in Breton. In addition to Gareth Jones, Émilie collaborated with Jákupsson, who sings in Faroese on the track ‘Run’, and writer Emily Chappell, who appears on the track ‘Netra Ken’, reading an excerpt from her book in Welsh. This sense of interconnectedness gives the album multiple facets. It is deeply personal and introspective, yet also collaborative and expansive. It is rooted in both historical and modern stories. It is an album that connects worlds while being entirely its own.
