It’s not uncommon to form a band in college, when you have your own art and what it all means. Then you grow up. You get married, you find a real job, life gets in the way of art. But the structure of the band is solid, and sometimes it survives. Quilt survived. Released in 2011, this self-titled debut album was produced and engineered by Jesse Gallagher of Apollo Sunshine. At times, when the three members sing, it’s a real revelation; however, the real key to the album lies in the members’ complete freedom with their music. Each of these songs is the result of an endless jam, letting the tracks take shape organically until they become coherent songs worth delving into. It’s the sound of a band finding its balance even as it subtly crosses musical boundaries, so subtly that it is almost imperceptible.
