Founded in Cologne in 1985, Pink Turns Blue quickly established itself as a pillar of European darkwave, blending the atmospheric elegance of post-punk pop with the raw dissonance of American punk, particularly that of Hüsker Dü—from which the band incidentally takes its name, inspired by Zen Arcade. Centered around Tom Elbern (vocals, guitar) and Mic Jogwer (vocals, bass), joined by Marcus Giltjes (drums) and Ruebi Walter (keyboards), the band forged a solid reputation through intense stage presence and independent distribution of their early demos. Despite a strong musical identity, the band initially struggled to attract labels: their refusal to sing in German and their unapologetic dark sound went against commercial expectations. After Elbern's departure in 1987, Pink Turns Blue signed with FunFactory!, an independent label from Münster, which encouraged them to create a full album rather than a series of singles. This led to the birth of *If Two Worlds Kiss* (1987), now reissued by Dais Records and remastered by Josh Bonati. A foundational work of darkwave, *If Two Worlds Kiss* embodies a rare balance between melancholy and energy: fast tracks like "Walking on Both Sides" stand alongside slower, darker anthems such as "When the Hammer Comes Down," while "That Was You" reveals their most danceable and unifying side. This first official reissue pays tribute to a cult album of European gothic rock, meticulously revisited from the original archives and enriched with an unreleased bonus track, "A Moment Sometimes."
