Symphony Number 3, Polonaise And Coronation March

Description

With this latest volume of their cycle dedicated to Tchaikovsky, Paavo Järvi and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich conclude their exploration of the Russian composer's symphonies: with Symphony No. 3, also known as the "Polonaise" (1875), the only symphony by Tchaikovsky composed in a major key. It is followed by another polonaise: the one that opens the third act of Eugene Onegin (1879), a lyrical opera inspired by the novel of the same name by Alexander Pushkin. The program concludes with a commission from the city of Moscow for the coronation of Alexander III: the Coronation March (1883).
