With his Estonian Festival Orchestra, Paavo Järvi pays tribute to Arvo Pärt, whose 90th anniversary will be celebrated in 2025. The Estonian composer has been part of Paavo Järvi's life since childhood: "Arvo was, for my sister and me, our father's cool friend. He wore a baseball cap, jeans, and a denim jacket," he recalls. The Järvi family's story is closely linked to Pärt's work, as it was the legendary concert where Paavo's father, Neeme, conducted Credo in 1968 that led to the Järvis being blacklisted by the Soviet regime and hastened their departure from Estonia. Credo is part of this extensive program that spans 45 years of composition. What is the secret of this music that combines simplicity and depth? Perhaps a clue can be found in Pärt's remark in London during a rehearsal with Paavo: "I feel like the orchestra doesn't love this chord enough"… The transformation was then incredible, and those notes played "with love" sounded different.
