Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (DKAM), winners of international distinctions such as the "Orchestra of the Year" 2023 award from Gramophone and the Echo Klassik 2024 prize in Germany, present their new project dedicated to the complete symphonies of Schubert. Approaching Schubert, who paved the way for 19th-century Romanticism by infusing classical formal beauty with rich emotional depth, through a 21st-century lens, their interpretation highlights the composer's innovative and avant-garde spirit. This Volume 1 of the Schubert cycle features two of Schubert's most beloved symphonies: the Fourth, known for its dramatic music that seems to transcend classical formal beauty by using C minor, a key favored by Beethoven, and the Seventh, considered the very essence of Romanticism. The distinctive qualities of Järvi and the DKAM are eloquently expressed in this recording. For the scores, the 1996 Urtext from the New Schubert Edition (Symphony No. 7) and the 1998 Bärenreiter-Ausgabe 5605 (No. 4), both published by Bärenreiter-Verlag, Kassel, were used.
