Description

"I find that Mendelssohn does not receive the attention he deserves," declared Paavo Järvi at the beginning of the 2020-2021 season. In light of this observation, he undertook, for his second season as music director, to record a complete cycle of Mendelssohn's orchestral works with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. The program includes the five symphonies of the composer, including the second known as "Lobgesang," a half-symphony, half-cantata, featuring the Zürcher Sing-Akademie, tenor Patrick Grahl, and sopranos Chen Reiss and Marie Henriette Reinhold. Finally, A Midsummer Night's Dream, drawn from Shakespeare's play and whose overture was composed by Mendelssohn at just 17 years old, concludes this beautiful cycle.
