The Estonian conductor continues the production of his post-Romantic repertoire recordings with the Bremen Chamber Philharmonic with this Brahms cycle, which will soon include the 4 Symphonies.This first volume offers Symphony No. 2 and two Symphonic Overtures, the "Tragic Overture" and the "Overture for an Academic Festival," which the conductor records for the very first time.
Paavo Järvi and his orchestra use for this repertoire the instruments that were used during Brahms' lifetime – divided strings, natural trumpets, and timpani – in search of a sound similar to what he intended to produce in his music.
