West Africa’s most iconic dance orchestra is back. A decade after their last album and almost half a century after their formation, Senegal’s Orchestra Baobab return with a timeless series of classic, infectious tracks blending Afro-Cuban rhythms and African tradition, hallmarks of the group. Recorded in Dakar, the new recordings are both tinged with freshness and reassuring familiarity, retaining the mature sound that made Orchestra Baobab a legend. As enduring as the mighty African baobab tree from which the band takes its name, the core of this veteran lineup is stronger and more solid than ever, with singers Balla Sidibe and Rudy Gomis, saxophonists Issa Cissoko and Thierno Koite, as well as longtime percussionists Balla Sidibe (on timbales), Charlie Ndiaye and Mountaga Koite (on congas). Produced by Nick Gold, Lamine Faye and Jerry Boys, this third album is an irresistible blend of velvet harmonies, warm vocals, ethereal saxophone and delicately sparkling layers of kora and guitar.
