West Africa’s most iconic dance band is back. A decade since their last album and almost half a century after they first formed, Senegal’s Orchestra Baobab return with a set of timeless new recordings, blending the classic and the contemporary, and fusing their characteristic Afro-Cuban rhythms with African tradition. Recorded in Dakar, the new recordings are both fresh and reassuringly familiar, retaining the mature sound that has made Orchestra Baobab a legend. As enduring as the mighty African Baobab tree from which the band takes its name, the veteran core of the band is as robust and vibrant as ever, with vocalists Balla Sidibe and Rudy Gomis, saxophonists Issa Cissoko and Thierno Koite, and longtime percussionists Balla Sidibe (on timbales), Charlie Ndiaye, and Mountaga Koite (on congas). Produced by Nick Gold, Lamine Faye and Jerry Boys, the third album is an irresistible blend of velvet harmonies, soulful vocals, ethereal sax, and delicately sparkling kora and guitar overlays.
