1988 saw the release of several timeless and remarkable EPs from Nurse With Wound, one of these classics being Alas the Madonna Does Not Function. Madonna was, in some ways, a turning point for NWW. It is a record that, while undeniably retaining that ineffable character of NWW, introduced rhythmic and almost "musical" elements. Madonna can be seen alongside the EPs Soresucker and Cooloorta Moon as the bridge between the old and the new, the natural precursors to Thunder Perfect Mind and Rock 'n Roll Station. Some 34 years later, Madonna still sounds fresh and unique, a true one-of-a-kind piece, proving that NWW is one of the few truly enduring and uncompromising artists of their time. This reissue is accompanied by the fan favorite, I am the Poison. With its laborious cyclical bass, minimalist sound, and distorted vocal lines, one could say that Poison is an overlooked yet divergent post-punk classic. Beautifully remastered by Andrew Liles. It comes in a lovely die-cut sleeve with illustrations by Babs Santini.
