Founded in 1996 by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson, the North Mississippi Allstars collective was an informal group of musicians from northern Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee, inspired by their neighbors RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Otha Turner, and the late Fred McDowell. Over the years, the group has included Cedric, Duwayne, and Garry Burnside, Chris Chew, Berry Oakley Jr, Oteil Burbridge, Ray Ray Hollowman (guitarist for Eminem and Ne-Yo), and currently Joey Williams (from the Blind Boys of Alabama). Since their Grammy-nominated debut album in 2000, they have toured worldwide, shared the stage with countless legends such as Mavis Staples, Robert Plant, John Hiatt, the Allman Brothers, Buddy Guy, Snoop Dogg, and Phil Lesh, to name just a few, and have been nominated multiple times for their experimental psychedelic folk roots rock albums. "Still Shakin'" is a tribute to their life-changing first album. "Shake Hands with Shorty," released 25 years ago, is an album that drew from the repertoire and experience of northern Mississippi in the 90s. They toured with RL Burnside, recorded with Otha Turner, hung out at Junior's Jukebox, and filtered new interpretations through their instinct of the moment. The source never runs dry, and the characters are always present. They recorded their second-generation friends, Duwayne Burnside and Robert Kimbrough, at Duwayne's Juke Joint in Holly Springs. The sacred guitar of their comrades Ray Ray Hollowman and Kashiah Hunter punctuated the music, accompanied by the singing and rhythm of Joey Williams from the Blind Boys of Alabama. Their albums merge the music of the future, but are always a glimpse into their current collaborations. In other words, Ray Ray and Joey have enriched NMA's music in recent years, and they appreciate their contribution to Still Shakin'. The band looks forward to the next 25 years of North Mississippi World Boogie.
