Afire, Niagara's third LP, is the rarest of albums from the kraut drummer, formerly of Klaus Weiss' band Sunbirds. An amazing album that returns to the minimal percussion and rhythm-based sounds of their debut, while still retaining a sense of harmony throughout the album - this time not through the brass that had been added in S.U.B., but through the emphasis on combining a variety of drums, each tuned to its perfect pitch, and the contribution of Embryo bassist Dave King. Percussionists George Brown, Sabu Rex and Norman Tolbert also participated in these sessions. The phenomenal rhythms contained on this LP have made it a highly sought-after piece among those looking for cool samplers to mix. Klaus Weiss is considered one of the best drummers in the German jazz scene, he has always been very active and has played with many American jazzmen traveling to Germany such as Hampton Hawes, Herbie Mann, Mal Waldron or Johnny Griffin, as well as with great German names such as Klaus Doldinger, George Gruntz, Friedrich Gulda, etc.
