Recorded and mixed - cautiously, anxiously, but with optimism - with producer Steve Albini at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, during the summer of 2020. "Pilgrimage Of The Soul" lives up to its name, as it represents not only the peaks and valleys where the Tokyo-based band MONO, consisting of four members, finds itself, but it also traces its long and steady journey to this place. Continuing the subtle yet profound creative progression in the MONO canon that began with "Nowhere Now Here" (2019), "Pilgrimage Of The Soul" is MONO's most dynamic album to date (and that's saying something). While the foundations of MONO rested on the well-established interplay between the silence of whispers and devastating noise, "Pilgrimage Of The Soul" weaves its magic with new instrumentation and enchanting electronic textures, and - perhaps most notably - faster tempos clearly influenced by techno. The whole turns out to be MONO's most unexpected album to date - full of surprises and as flooded with splendor as anything the band has ever done.
