After months of developing elaborate acoustic versions of the songs for what he had originally envisioned to be a solo acoustic guitar album, MJ Lenderman had a burst of inspiration and rearranged the music for electric guitar, where he has long been at home with his two decades working as a composer and bandleader for the avant-prog band Ahleuchatistas. These are arrangements in his intuitive, intense, and intimate style, more directly aligned with his flagship electric band. Whereas the acoustic guitar produces resonance through tactile manipulation, the electric guitar exploits the flow of electricity, which allows for a more urgent and colorful slice of our historical moment to be carved out with these haunting melodies that were first formed in the most unforgiving working conditions, provocatively asserting the creative human spirit’s capacity to spring forth from any circumstance.
