Before being in Sugar or becoming the go-to producer for Drive-By Truckers throughout their career, David Barbe led the Athens, Georgia trio Mercyland, which released a minor classic with No Feet On the Cowling in 1989. The only album from the legendary post-punk group from Athens, Georgia, originally released in 1989, has been completely remixed and remastered. For this 2023 reissue, Barbe returned to the master tapes and was able to remix the album with the robust sound he wanted it to have in 1989. The "lost classic of the American Underground" now sounds bigger and better than ever. Finding a raw yet melodic midpoint between British post-punk and American rock & roll, the band never sacrifices melody for power (or vice versa), adding counterpoint vocals and lyrics that explore the human experience without falling into obvious clichés.
