MERCYLAND

Description

Mercyland, led by David Barbe (Bob Mould's Sugar), was a founding post-punk trio from Athens, Georgia. Formed in 1985 and disbanded in 1991, the band left behind a body of work that never gained wide exposure. The group drew from a steady diet of Double Nickels on the Dime by the Minutemen, Metal Circus by Husker Du, Meat Puppets 2, Yr Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr, Volcano Suns, and Mission of Burma. "Mercyland" unveils eleven tracks recorded between 1985 and 1987 that are raw, urgent, and deeply connected to the American underground. Produced and organized by Barbe, the collection relies on early 8-track recordings, studio demos, and live performances. It is a necessary historical document on the criminally unknown band, capturing the spirit of a group ahead of its time. Fully remixed and pressed on vinyl for the first time.
