McCoy Tyner and Bobby Hutcherson, two of the major figures in jazz since the 1960s, have officially co-led an album only twice, but their collaboration, which began in 1966, has resulted in several encounters, including this new official album. During this concert in Perugia, the vigor of both musicians is still palpable: supported by the powerful rhythm of Avery Sharpe and Aaron Scott – founding members of Tyner's trio at the time – the pianist and the vibraphonist offer us a memorable evening that the author of these lines, present at the concert, remembers with immense pleasure over the years, long before the release of this recording on Red, long before it became accessible to the whole world. We are certain that those who listen to it for the first time will enjoy it as much as we do.
