Description

After the explosive 'Ashamed,' Mad Foxes' flamboyant post-punk returns with their third album, 'Inner Battles.' When lovers of Shame, Fontaines D.C., and Metz seek to develop new sounds, the result is a surprising and complete album. The band orchestrates a meeting between Noise and Pop, daring to marry punk with the kitsch of the 80s, as if Elton John were having coffee with Joe Talbot. 'Inner Battles' is the fruit of a deeply introspective creative process. The band questions many of the feelings that fuel their daily lives and relationships, exploring mental health in its intimate and universal aspects. Mad Foxes then gives way to the visceral need to share their deep and chaotic feelings, while seeking ways to escape them, to break free from this inner struggle to let hope and light radiate. The album was recorded by Christophe Hogommat between January and March 2023 near Nantes. Christophe and the band had already worked together on their first two albums, and their long-standing friendship and complicity allowed for ideal recording conditions, enabling them to weave the narrative thread of the album as honestly as possible. The album's mixing was entrusted to Joris Saïdani, drummer for Birds in Row and Fragments, and a sound engineer who has worked with BOPS, Simone d'Opale, and Middle Child, among others. His fresh perspective on the recording, his acute musical sense, and his discerning ear contributed to giving 'Inner Battles' a radical turn, true to the band's and Joris's desire to merge the pop and noise emanating from the new tracks. The mastering was handled by Thibault Chaumont, a skilled sound technician who has worked for Igorrr, Lana Del Rey, and It It Anita, and who brilliantly applied the essential final touch to this record. "With 'Ashamed,' their second album released in 2021, Mad Foxes kicked down the post-punk door to forcefully join the outsiders of a revival that was rich in worthy representatives. A strong impression that materialized in the following months with a great KEXP session and an invitation to play on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Two years later, the Nantes-based band has recharged its batteries and is returning with 'Inner Battles,' a new salvo due out on February 2, 2024.
