LE TON MITÉ is a musical cooperative centered around an eminently original artist: the eccentric and endearing musician/artist/luthier on the road McCloud Zicmuse, an American expatriate permanently residing in Brussels (where he formed the band Hoquets). McCloud has recently turned his attention to his home country, the USA, which he has traveled again after a decade of absence, both with affection, perplexity, and concern. This journey inspired him to create a stunning new album, whose fifty tracks, lovingly crafted pop haikus, draw from more than half a dozen musical styles (rock, folk, soul, square dance, baroque, free jazz, and various experimental music) to poetically describe the whimsical tribulations of their author. Fifty tracks, like the number of states in the USA, featuring rhythmic sections, saxophones, guitars, keyboards, bassoons, flutes, the spinet of the Vosges, and percussion. The orchestrations are both extravagant and elegant, sometimes rich, sometimes stripped down, and all of it has obviously been processed through the mill of Le Ton Mité: you can find the unique touch of McCloud Zicmuse, his whimsy, his poetic approach to music and life in general. The majority of the lyrics are in French, but he also sings in English, Dutch, and Spanish. The album was recorded near Cherbourg and mixed in Brussels with the collaboration of Marc Meliá (Lonely Drifter Karen), Rutger De Brabander, and Hans Bloemmen, with the valuable participation of John Dieterich (Deerhoof) on five tracks, as well as Heather Trost (A Hawk and a Hacksaw). It is released as part of the legendary MADE TO MEASURE series from Crammed.
