Kuunatic’s eagerly awaited second album, *Wheels of Ömon*, is another adventurous dive into their fantastic mythology, offering new worlds of psychedelic drama and ritual. In addition to their core sound palette of tribal drums, rumbling bass, atmospheric keyboards and female vocals, the celebrated Japanese psych-rock trio played a range of traditional Japanese instruments on *Wheels of Ömon*. The result is a thrilling and kaleidoscopic album that brushes against tradition while spiralling towards an otherworldly future. Kuunatic’s imaginative flights achieve the same kind of epic, sci-fi world-building as legendary French jazz-prog heroes, Magma, but their inspirations come from further afield. Before going to record the album in the Netherlands, Kuunatic drew inspiration from a residency in the Bruson region of Switzerland and its breathtaking landscapes and rich history.
