Description

With Appalachia, her fifth album and third signed to Oh Boy Records, Emily Scott Robinson once again asserts her talent as a storyteller and performer. Recorded at Dreamland Recording Studios with Grammy-nominated producer Josh Kaufman, this album, due in 2026, explores resilience, love, grief, and hope, carried by the singer's clear voice and a renewed desire for experimentation. Ten years after her debut, Robinson has established herself as a respected figure in the country and Americana scene. Her albums Traveling Mercies (2019) and American Siren (2021) were featured in year-end lists by Rolling Stone and Stereogum, while NPR named her track “Let ’Em Burn” among the 100 best songs of 2021. Her anthem of hope, The Time for Flowers, recorded at home during the pandemic, marked a turning point: it caught the attention of the independent label founded by John Prine, which she joined in keeping with this free and humanist spirit. On Appalachia, Robinson delivers her most personal compositions: she sings about her grandmother's slow loss of memory, the characters in a cash-only saloon, and gratitude for life despite its challenges. The album includes a duet with John Paul White, celebrating a love matured by time and scars, and a prayer for those who have failed or fallen. "I always slip a prayer into my records," she confides. "I ask these songs to find those who need them, and to help them find joy again."
