Kerala Dust's new album, Violet Drive, is a record deeply affected and influenced by its surroundings. The band, formed in London in 2016, is now based between Berlin and Zurich, and the three Britons – Edmund Kenny on vocals, keyboardist Harvey Grant, and guitarist Lawrence Howarth – have created a profoundly European album, straddling past and future, and blending a wealth of influences. In this spirit, the 12 songs on Violet Drive were built from and around the drums; these amazing and off-kilter rhythms define the album. Recorded in two weeks in a studio located in the Alps, just outside Zurich, the drums provide the framework upon which the album's lyrics and arrangements of bluesy guitars and hazy synthesizers bounce and give body to the songs.
