At the turn of the 1980s, Keith Jarrett surprised everyone by recording the material for two sublime albums, simply titled Standard, volumes 1 & 2. After years spent exploring the art of the quartet and developing a unique solitary universe at the edges of genres, the pianist, drawing from the limitless repertoire of Broadway songs, managed to completely redefine his aesthetic by reclaiming the trio format alongside Gary Peacock on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums.
