Formed in 1991, Katatonia quickly established itself as one of the pillars of Scandinavian gothic doom/death alongside Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride. Released in 1996, their second album Brave Murder Day became a classic of the genre, blending stripped-down structures, haunting atmospheres and cross-influences from Paradise Lost, Kent or Slowdive. Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) handles the majority of the growl vocals, while Jonas Renkse performs the sung passages and plays the drums.
