Adormidera - Josephine Foster Sings The Songs of Victor Herrero

Description

Josephine Foster is a singer, composer and lyrical poet born in Colorado. A former opera student turned experimental folk artist, she breathes new life into old forms by transforming them. Her music evokes a strange and ghostly America, inspired in particular by the world of Harry Smith, while recreating an imaginary past all her own. For over 25 years, she has explored varied styles on the border of psych-folk, country blues, lieder and avant-garde song, carried by her singular mezzo-soprano voice and her sense of interpretation. In tribute to her longtime collaborator, she invited Spanish composer Víctor Herrero to select some of her songs for her. Herrero's classical guitar accompanies Foster's airy voice in compositions that extend the legacy of artists like Amancio Prada and Víctor Jara. According to Alex Neilson, Josephine Foster's voice evokes a stained glass window that could sing: delicate, luminous and full of nuance. Her collaboration with Herrero creates an intimate and contemplative music, offering a refuge from a troubling world. Adormidera is thus described as a hypnotic experience, where memory, shadow and emotion converse.
