"Currently, Jonas Kaufmann is truly unique, and rightly so, as there is no other tenor who performs, sings, embodies as perfectly, who knows how to blend, for each role, the colors of his voice that are sometimes dark, sometimes honey-colored, sometimes baritone...". After dedicating several years to the Lieder of Gustave Mahler, Kaufmann continues to be interested in the music of the turn of the century, in this new album "Du bist die Welt für mich" which pays tribute to the operettas of the 30s in Berlin. In the midst of the economic crisis of the interwar period, the Weimar Republic (between Germany's defeat at the end of World War I in 1918, and the rise of Hitler to power in 1933) was the center of considerable artistic creation. There was an explosion of works called "light" under the pen of many composers such as Lehár, Stolz, Abraham, Tauber, May, and Korngold. These musicians would fall victim to racial fanaticism with the arrival of Nazism and would suffer a tragic fate for some of them. Both "classical" and "popular," these operettas have the social mission of entertaining populations facing a serious political crisis. Jonas Kaufmann pays tribute to this repertoire specifically written for tenors.
