With Magische Töne, Jonas Kaufmann returns to the world of operetta and romantic opera, presenting a selection of the most beautiful and beloved melodies of the genre. Recorded in Budapest with the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra under the direction of Dirk Kaftan, the album celebrates the rich musical heritage of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (1867-1918). This new recording brings together pieces still popular today by Emmerich Kálmán, Franz Lehár and Paul Abraham, as well as lesser-known treasures such as Bob's entrance aria from Jeno Huszka (Bob Herceg). Several duets enrich the program, notably the sparkling "Komm mit nach Varasdin" from Gräfin Mariza, performed with soprano Nikola Hillebrand, one of today's most celebrated voices. Among the highlights of the recording are the two opera arias "Hazám, hazám" from Bánk bán by Ferenc Erkel and the album's title track, "Magische Töne" from Die Königin von Saba by Karl Goldmark.
