Classical Event: JONAS KAUFMANN ("The world's greatest tenor" - The Telegraph) unveils "The Sound of Movies" on Sony Classical on September 15, 2023. Great film music has been a lifelong passion for Jonas Kaufmann, and his new album is a celebration of this, featuring nearly a century of unforgettable film songs that have thrilled global audiences. It includes hit songs from classic films such as West Side Story, Gladiator, Cinema Paradiso, The Sound of Music, Les Misérables, The Mission, The Great Caruso, Singin' in the Rain, Once upon a Time in America, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and many more! Recently recorded with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Jochen Rieder, Kaufmann is also joined on four tracks by the renowned guitarist Miloš Karadaglić. The album also features the world premiere recording of the theme from The Cider House Rules by Oscar-winning composer Rachel Portman. "To immerse yourself in this world for a few hours and forget everything around you is incredibly fascinating – a bit like in the theater or opera," Kaufmann explains about film music. "I traveled a lot for many years, often alone for weeks and months in foreign cities on the other side of the world. Besides museums, it was the cinema – that wonderful opportunity for entertainment when you're alone – that captivated my imagination." The limited edition deluxe CD digipack includes a personal note from Jonas Kaufmann, a comprehensive booklet in English, German, and French, as well as several original movie posters and numerous photos. The vinyl edition is a double 180-gram Gatefold LP.
