Johnny Mafia is above all a story of friends — started in 2010 in a high school in Sens — and a long-distance race. Over some fifteen years, through albums and endless tours across Europe and beyond (the world, even!), Théo, Fabio, William and Enzo have gradually established themselves as an essential band, but always at their own pace, in their own way, without worrying too much about the codes or expectations of the music business. The band’s sound, refined over the course of their releases, is now instantly recognizable, at the crossroads of alternative rock with muscular guitars and a somewhat goofy pop punk, which knows how to play mischievously with hard rock codes, for the duration of a tapping solo. Merci Beaucoup, Johnny Mafia’s fifth album, stands out not only as the band’s most ambitious and accomplished album to date, but also probably the one that suits them best. Written as a four-piece during days off from their Indonesian tour in autumn 2025, the album was conceived for the studio and designed as a playground, leaving room for the band’s impulses, without filters: gabber / eurodance synths, metal gimmicks, flamenco, reggae, dad rock, it’s all there. Scattered with unexpected guest features, this new album, recorded by Francis Caste at Studio SainteMarthe, contains 13 tracks. Each one, from the very first notes, recalls the band’s incredible ability to come up with irresistible little anthems of furious, laid-back rock.
