John Coltrane's first masterpiece (1957) is bathed in that blue hue found in its title, in the cover photo by Francis Wolff, in the name of its label (Blue Note), and, of course, in its music, as the blues is truly omnipresent. Blended with the exuberance of hard bop, which is driven by a great team of young talents (notably bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones), it is the source of those dazzling crescendos that will become the saxophonist's trademark. Excerpt from the ideal Fnac discography 2017.
