Since his 2004 song "If You Ever Need a Stranger (To Sing at Your Wedding)", Jens Lekman has become, almost by accident, a wedding singer. For over twenty years, he has thus observed, as a privileged witness, the role that love songs can play in our lives. In 2020, he teamed up with writer David Levithan to create a hybrid project: a musical novel titled Songs from Other People's Weddings. The album was originally intended to simply accompany the book by bringing together the songs played at the weddings mentioned. But as the process unfolded, Lekman imagined what happens between the chapters, enriching the fiction with his songs — and vice versa. Book and album evolved together, intertwining the narratives. The album explores what we sing when we sing about love: euphoria, doubt, tenderness, dissonance, joy, loss, irony, gratitude, the desire to belong. It's a love story, told through the stories of others — and above all, a tribute to love songs themselves. Yellow vinyl edition.
