This new album is by far his most accessible while preserving the caustic lyrics that so characterize him. Indeed, Jeffrey Lewis excels in the art of transforming insignificant daily details into burlesque epics. This new album, Manhattan, his seventh on the Rough Trade label, is a collection of indie pop melodies produced by John Agnello (War on Drugs, Kurt Vile) and recorded by Brian Speaker, where Jeffrey Lewis, with his illuminating voice, positions his discourse inspired by New York City. Also noteworthy is the presence of Los Bolts: Heather Wagner (drums) and Caitlin Gray (bass).
