Lundgren, Parisien, Danielsson: a luminous trio at the summit of European jazz. The three musicians, brought together as a trio on record for the first time, choose catchy melodies as the starting point for their excursions together; there is a childlike sense of wonder, joy, and discovery in the unfolding of these improvisations. The opening track, "Glädjens Blomsters" (Flowers of Joy), is an old Swedish folk song; Emile Parisien’s dark soprano sax gives it a truly touching sense of melancholy. Lars Danielsson’s hymn to his daughter, "As ta," is soothing and vibrates with beautiful harmonic colors. The other themes take their time to develop, the musicians hold back their impulses less, and greater melodic freedom gradually asserts itself, notably around the alternation between saxophone and piano. The trio is led by Lundgren, a regular pianist in another famous trio with R. Galliano and P. Fresu, Mare Nostrum.
