Jaco Pastorius (John Francis Pastorius) is an American jazz bassist, born on December 1, 1951, in Norristown (Pennsylvania) and died on September 21, 1987, in Fort Lauderdale (Florida). Self-proclaimed "greatest bassist in the world," a virtuoso technician, he had a major influence on the role of the electric bass and its transition from a simple accompanist to a true soloist. Pat Metheny said of him that he is "the last jazzman of the 20th century to have influenced the following generations." Reissue: In 1981, Jaco recorded for the Warner Music Group label with a big band assembled for the occasion, the Word of Mouth, a self-titled album. This orchestra includes musicians such as Don Alias, Peter Erskine, Herbie Hancock, Othello Molineaux, Michael Brecker, Howard Johnson, Hubert Laws, Wayne Shorter, Toots Thielemans, etc.
