The loss of a loved one can create a sensation similar to having a phantom limb. Often, it feels like a simple phone call would be enough to reach the person in question. But that moment between picking up the phone and our brain remembering the new reality is a strange and fleeting eternity. In her new song 'Sandwiches' and in the album from which it is taken, Our Two Skins, Gordi explores the sadness and glory of this feeling. One of Gordi's first guitar-and-voice songs shines with a lush yet fragile momentum reminiscent of 'Dreams' by The Cranberries. For this album, Gordi enlisted long-time collaborators and the duo who produce for Bon Iver, Chris Messina and Zach Hanson. Recorded in her family home in Canowindra, Australia, the small farming town where her family has lived for over a century, Canowindra, and the heart of the matriarch, the late grandmother of the artist to whom she pays tribute here, are woven into this song. "Her whole life was in Canowindra... we made this album in a house located a hundred meters from hers."
