Description

This 9th volume of the Haydn 2032 series focuses on the psychological subtlety of a creator like Haydn through a central work: his Symphony No. 45, known as the "Abschieds-Symphonie" (The Farewells). Composed in 1772, its nickname is said to be due to a symbolic message sent to Prince Esterházy, as Haydn and his orchestra had to stay longer than expected at his summer residence. At the premiere of this symphony, Haydn arranged for each musician to leave their place one by one during the performance of the final Adagio. The day after the concert, all the musicians were able to return to their families and bid farewell to the prince, who had clearly grasped the poetry of this request for "liberation" expressed through music... The program is completed by Symphonies No. 15 and 35, as well as a cantata sung by Sandrine Piau, the heart-wrenching "Berenice, che fai?" based on a text by Metastasio, a true hit of the 18th century that was taken up by around forty composers.
